Action Items in Slack
Use slash commands to create, view, and manage action items. Emoji responses and the extended menu allow you to quickly convert incident channel messages into tasks or follow-ups.
Slash Commands
Add a task or follow up to an incident by running one of these commands in the incident channel:
/rootly task
- Create a new task for this incident
/rootly followup
- Create a new follow-up for this incident
View your assigned tasks using these commands:
/rootly action
- View a list of action items for this incident
- Create a new task or follow up for this incident
- Change the status of a task or follow-up
- Assign a team or user
- Edit a task or follow-up
- Delete a task or follow-up
- Convert a task or follow-up
/rootly todo
- View a list of tasks assigned to you
- Edit tasks
Emoji Reactions
Use reaction emojis to create an action item from a Slack message in an incident channel.
React to a message with a star to convert it into a task:
React to a message with a wrench to convert it into a follow-up:
The Rootly app will add a white check mark to confirm the task or follow-up has been created.
Change emojis from Configuration> Integrations > Slack. Learn more about configuring the Slack integration.
Slack extended menu
Click the More actions button to create an action item from a Slack message in an incident channel.
- Hover over a message and click More Actions.
- From the extended menu, select Add Action Item.
- The new action item form will pop up with the Slack message as the summary.
